Take care of your LAPTOP

7 Steps To Take Care Of Your Laptop Computer

How to keep your Laptop Computer in the best possible condition? Try these7 Steps To Take Care Of Your Laptop
Computer
1.keep it cool
A laptop computer generates a lot of heat, especially when equip with the latest top performance Video card.
Too much heat and you risk damaging the internal circuitry.

Keep your laptop in a well-ventilated, cool environment. And ensure you don't block the fan grills on the sides,
back, or bottom of the laptop at any time.

2.Handle the screen carefully
Avoid touching or playing with your LCD screen. Yes, it might be fun to watch the waves generated by your
finger against the screen, but LCD displays are fragile devices that must be cared for.
Take care when cleaning the screen too, and use only approved cleaning materials.

3.Don't drop it
Whatever you do, don't through your laptop and don't drop your laptop computer! Keep it safe inside of
a carrying case when moving around or traveling.
Don't leave it on the edge of a table or on an unstable support of some kind.
One ill fated drop to the floor could spell death for your mobile office.

Try to make sure the rubber feet underneath are in good condition and are still attached.
This will prevent the device from sliding around accidentally.

4.Be careful with those drinks...
If you need to have a drink while using your laptop, be careful not to spill it.
Your laptop computer could suffer the consequences from just a few drops of liquid poured in the right places.
While you probably do eat and drink around it regardless, try to occasionally wipe down the edges, the keyboard,
the touchpad, and maybe even wipe down the screen
to keep any dirt from accumulating.

4.Keep caution to viruses
Security wise, make sure you obtain an anti-virus program. Secondly, keep it updated!
Install an anti-virus one month and not updating it for the next six really negates it purpose.
Your laptop computer could be exposed to hundreds and thousands of new viruses
every month if you don't update your virus definitions.
Most anti-virus programs have automatic update methods, eliminating the need for you to have to remember to do it manually.

5.Avoid Spywave.
Pop-ups are particularly annoying on a laptop computer. Trying to close a bunch of windows without
a regular mouse can be a nuisance.
You'll need a pop-up blocker, such as the Google Toolbar (located at http://tools.google.com),t
o prevent these pop- up ads.

Many intrusive forms of advertising, and even some viruses, can install software on your machine by using
various forms of pop-ups.
It's best to get yourself a blocker and avoid
the situation entirely.

6.Use a firewall

Always utilize a firewall on your Internet or network- enabled laptop computer. Even if you use
Windows XP's built- in firewall (or purchase one from such companies as Norton),
your security will greatly benefit from it.

Blocking out all the unnecessary ports and closing all the loopholes will prevent a hacker or virus
from freely entering your hard drive.

7.Don't try to fix it on your own
If anything goes wrong ,don't try to open the laptop casing and try to fix it blindly.Leave it to the professional.
You could end up with damaging other part of your laptop if you're unsure what and how to do.

Salted HARD DISK

Their new manufacturing process, involving simple sodium chloride, can boost the capacity of computer hard disks by six times.
The discovery was made by Singapore's national research institution the Agency for Science Technology and Research, in collaboration with the National University of Singapore and the Data Storage Institute.
The agencies have "developed a process that can increase the data recording density of hard disks to 3.3 Terabits per square inch, six times the recording density of current models", they said in a statement.
The addition of sodium chloride to the manufacturing process meant the pattern of bits – units of information – on the surface of each magnetic disk was neater, allowing more to be crammed in.
The salt improved the resolution of the electron beam used to “print” the bits.
"It can give you a very high contrast. We are now able to see fine lines that would normally be blurred out," said Dr Joel Yang, the scientist who led the development.
"Otherwise you can try your best to pattern these bits very closely but they will all end up being gigantic blurred out blobs.”
According Dr Yang, the new process could be commercialised by 2016, "when the current techniques run out of fuel and (hard drive manufacturers) need to find alternate methods" of increasing data storage space.

3D printing: Solar Sinter

5. Solar Sinter

Solar Sinter
When you watch this video, and get past the cute, tongue-in-cheek set up, you’ll start to “feel the future” in what Markus Kayser’s team has put together—even if its shot, literally, in the middle of nowhere. Kayser has designed a 3D printer that is, more or less, completely self-sufficient. The power is wrought from photovoltaic cells and refocused beams of light for melting. The materials are drawn entirely from the rather abundant sand around him.
Though the two demonstrations are a crude, modern art-looking sculpture and a very rough bowl, one can sense how with refinement, this set-up could eventually be used to yield tools for those in very distant corners of the globe. Though, Kayser is clear that he’s not directing any particular line of thinking with the project, just providing a thought pill.
“Solar-sintering aims to raise questions about the future of manufacturing and trigger dreams of the full utilization of the production potential of the world’s most efficient energy resource - the sun,” says Kayser’s Vimeo page. “Whilst not providing definitive answers this experiment aims to provide a point of departure for fresh thinking.”

Laptops student can buy

No two people, it seems, want the same thing from the good old laptop. Someone wants good battery, some want ultra-portability, some want a multimedia powerhouse. Perhaps, the students are the least demanding of this lot! What they are looking for is a mixture of performance and portability, blended in an affordable price point.

Here is what they can buy, be it for school or college.

Samsung R- series NP-RV509-A06IN
Rs 27000 approx

Pretty well loaded for an entry-level laptop. Intel Core i5 @ 2.66GHz, 3GB RAM, 15.6-inch display and a 500GB hard drive, but doesn’t come preloaded with an OS. Maybe Linux is the way to go? Or just get a Windows 7 installation.

HP Pavilion G4-1008TU
Rs 32000 approx

Not the best-looking laptop around, by far, and doesn’t carry the sleekness of some of the rivals. But does the job it has been made to do, with a pretty powerful package. An Intel Core i5 processor @2.66GHz, 3GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, and for the extra bit of money (as compared to the Samsung R- series), this one has the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Basic pre-loaded. Has a 15.6-inch display.

Dell Inspiron 13z
Rs 39000

The New Inspiron 13z does make for a good machine. This one is powered by the second generation Intel Core i3 processor clocking at 2.20GHz, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB but a 7200rpm hard drive and a more portable 13.3-inch display. He build quality is also slightly better then the other two we have mentioned before this one. But then again, as you move up the price chain, this is bound to happen.

HP Pavilion dv6- 3050TX
Rs 51000

This is where we are getting into the higher end of the pack. The HP Pavilion dv6 looks and feels the part. The aluminum finish and the glossy colours do lend it quite a bit of sparkle. The power package is pretty solid as well- Intel Core i7 @ 1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 640GB hard drive, ATi Mobility Radeon HD5650 (1GB) graphics and 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium pre-loaded.

Apple MacBook AirStarting at Rs 56,900

This is the slimmest laptop around. The updated versions have received the Intel Core i5 processors and upgraded the flash storage as well. Available in 11-inch and 13-inch versions, but both are extremely lightweight and portable. You will probably end up buying these if you are an Apple fanboy, or just need a laptop that is as slim and light as that notepad on your desk.

Things you can see in near future part 1

Concept: Flexible Computer integral cord
Regardless of desktop computer or laptop, both with the shape of traditional style, but this flexible concept computer ‘Integral Cord’ designed by Raphael Lang, Yu-Lin Hou and Stephen Chan Win Tak from Germany is absolutely refreshing, the designers integrate all the hardware devices into flexible coil. With the integral cord that acts as screen manipulator, user can manipulate the screen to any size or shape he want, and user can even join more integral cords to form a bigger screen. It’s surely a very creative and convenient design.

Things to check before buying a Laptop

If you are going to buy a Laptop you must consider following things:

  1. Battery Life: One of the most essential thing when choosing to buy a new laptop.
  2. Weight: You should also check the weight. Since while roaming it will be on your back so it will directly affect your back.
  3. Processor: Processor included must be faster. It should be Intel core i5.
  4. USB: USB port must be USB 3.0 because of its high speed of 480 MBps.

7.1.12

Some Health tips for Regular Computer Users

  1. Stretch once an hour: Do not sit in a posture for more than an hour. Lean forward, cross your arms in front of you, hold your knees, and push your knees apart, keeping your hands on them. You’ll feel this stretch across your shoulder blades. Stretch your fingers, arms, hands, and torso at regular intervals.
  2. Exercise throughout the day: Make sure you move your hands, legs, back, and neck every 10 minutes throughout the day. Get up and take short walks from your workstation periodically.
  3. Maintain a good working posture: According to the US Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the following are important considerations when attempting to maintain neutral body postures while working at the computer workstation:
    • Hands, wrists and forearms are straight, in-line and roughly parallel to the floor.
    • Head is level or bent slightly forward, forward facing, and balanced. Generally it is in-line with the torso.
    • Shoulders are relaxed and upper arms hang normally at the side of the body.
    • Elbows stay in close to the body and are bent between 90 and 120 degrees.
    • Feet are fully supported by floor or footrest.
    • Back is fully supported with appropriate lumbar support when sitting vertical or leaning back slightly.
    • Thighs and hips are supported by a well-padded seat and generally parallel to the floor.
    • Knees are about the same height as the hips with the feet slightly forward.
  4. Place and adjust the monitor: Place the computer monitor at the recommended viewing distance and angle, adjusting it to the right clarity settings.
    • Adjust your position at a safe distance from where you can clearly view the elements on the monitor and read the text without slipping to awkward postures. The preferred distance between the eye and monitor is in the range of 20-40 inches (50-100 cm).
    • Adjust your computer monitor to be directly in front of you with your head, neck, and torso facing the screen. Your monitor should not be farther than 35 degrees to the left or right.
    • Give periodic rest to your eyes by looking at far-away objects. For example, a clock or calendar on the wall that is away from your workstation. Viewing the monitor for a long period results in fatigue and dryness. You must stop, look away and blink at regular intervals to give your eyes the necessary moisture. Other non-computer tasks such as filing, phone work, etc., can help your eyes take the needed break from the stress.
  5. Position the pointer/mouse to maintain a straight and neutral wrist posture: If the keyboard tray/surface is not large enough to accommodate both the keyboard and mouse, try one of the following to limit stresses related to reaching and holding:
    • A mouse platform positioned over the keyboard. This design allows the mouse to be used above the 10-key pad.
    • A mouse tray next to the keyboard tray.
    • A fingertip joystick attached to the keyboard.
    • Pointing devices attached to the keyboard such as a touchpad.
    • Point devices such as mouse that have the right size so that they fit the hand.
    • Mousepad with a wrist rest.
  6. Keep the keyboards at a comfortable position: Placing keyboards, pointing devices, or working surfaces too high or too low may result in awkward wrist, arm, and shoulder postures.
    • Adjust the chair height and desk height to maintain a neutral body posture.
    • Raise or lower the tilt of the keyboard to maintain straight, neutral wrist postures.
    • If you are left-hand user, use an alternative left hand keyboard, which has the keypad permanently affixed to the left side.
  7. Adjust the location of frequently-used devices: Devices such as keyboard, phone and mouse must be placed within the repetitive access (primary work zone) area.
  8. Use mobile and size-adjustable chairs: Desks that are not at the right height may force you to take awkward postures such as extending your arms to reach the keyboard or raising your shoulders. Make sure that you have adequate clearance space for your thighs, legs, etc. particularly if you frequently change working postures.
  9. Seating: Opt for a chair that provides adequate support to your back, legs, buttocks, and arms. For example, an ideal chair for your workstation should have the following:
    • Backrest that adjusts well to the natural curvature of your spine and provides necessary lumbar support
    • Comfortable seat that allows your feet to rest flat on the floor or a footrest that helps you adjust the height
    • Soft armrests that allow your shoulders to relax and your elbows to stay close to your body
    • Five-leg base with casters that allow easy movement along the floor

Samsung Galaxy Skin

Flexible Samsung phone 'to be issued in 2012'

The new Samsung Galaxy Skin is set to feature a bendable AMOLED display that will allow users to roll it up like a wrist-watch

Samsung is poised to release a flexible mobile phone, according to reports in the International Business Times. The new Samsung Galaxy Skin will feature an AMOLED display that will allow the phone to bend around a cylinder with a 1-inch diameter. Brighter than the normal screen, the AMOLED display is also low-energy and almost unbreakable, according to the reports.
Using a plastic polyimide substrate instead of glass, Samsung has produced displays that are “rollable [and] bendable” and which can even “survive blows from a hammer”. The phone was developed by Prof Haeseong Jee and Jye Yeon You.
The key material of this new technology is ‘graphene’, touted as “the miracle material”. Research by scientists from Columbia University has established that ‘graphene’ is the strongest material in the world, “some 200 times stronger than structural steel”.
The Galaxy Skin will offer a high-resolution 800×480 flexible AMOLED screen, eight megapixel camera and 1Gb of RAM as well as a 1.2GHz processor. Samsung has not yet disclosed the device’s operating system, but there have been rumors about Jelly Bean – Google’s next Android release after Ice Cream Sandwich – or a new release called Android Flexy.
The new core technology also allows the phone to be used as a mouse, a clock or a wrist-watch. Samsung has not confirmed the exact date of release.
